News of Alumni: Darryl Hill '60

The University of Maryland recently announced it would name a  football facility on its campus the Jones-Hill House, recognizing two trailblazers who broke the color barrier at Maryland in football and basketball. Darryl Hill, of the Gonzaga Class of 1960, was the first Black student-athlete to play football at Maryland and in the ACC in 1963.

"Jones-Hill House is a fitting tribute to two men who were heroic trailblazers in Billy Jones and Darryl Hill," said Maryland Athletic Director Damon Evans in a press release. “We are excited to honor them with a permanent reminder of the impact they made on all of Maryland Athletics and the world of collegiate sports."

Part of the Cole Field House, the Jones-Hill House will be the new home for the football performance center as well as football operations. To read the full press release from the University of Maryland, click here.
