News of Alumni: Jimmy Taylor '19 and Teddy Zinsner '17

Congratulations to Jimmy Taylor ‘19, who recently won the 108th Virginia State Amateur for golf, which took place at the Country Club of Petersburg in Peterburg, VA. "Taylor, a rising junior at William & Mary, first picked up a golf club when he was about 8 years old, but it didn’t become his main sport until several years later, when he didn’t earn a spot on the Gonzaga College High School basketball team and decided to change his athletic focus," writes the Virginia State Golf Association. “This is my favorite tournament all year long, every year,” Taylor said. “I love match play, and I always tell myself if I can get into match play that I’m tough to beat. I think I can beat anyone I tee it up against.” Click here to read the full article.

Fellow Gonzaga alum Teddy Zinsner ‘17 was the medalist in stroke play with rounds of 66-62, a course record and the lowest medalist score in the history of the event.

"It's pretty wild because recent Gonzaga grads now hold both the Virginia and Maryland Amateur titles (Brad Whitaker '18 won in MD earlier this summer), which is the biggest golf tournament in the state each year. I can't imagine this has happened for two high school teammates before," says Gonzaga Golf Head Coach Mike Hanagan '08.

Congratulations to all and Hail Gonzaga!
