GFC Organizes Inaugural National Day of Service
On Saturday March 20, the Gonzaga Fathers Club organized the inaugural Gonzaga National Day of Service. The Gonzaga family--including alumni, parents, students and friends--identified, organized, and mobilized across the country to lead 27 service projects in support of their local communities.
From the Washington area to New York City, Los Angeles, Columbus, Charlotte and Panama City, hundreds of volunteers gathered for service efforts including filling food and supply pantries; beautification and clean-up of communities, churches, and parks; assembling care and food packages for the homeless and young children; collecting sports equipment for under-served youth; providing guidance and support with college applications for DC public school students; and leading a clothing drive for the Father McKenna Center.
"By all accounts it was a great day of service both locally and nationally that helped connect the Gonzaga community with their local communities and model our “Men for Others” mantra," says GFC President Grant Palmer. "Our hope is for this effort to become an annual event for the Gonzaga community moving forward."
Thank you to all of the project leaders and the hundreds of volunteers that joined in the NDoS across the country. On behalf of the GFC, special thanks to Mike Kirvan, John Kalitka, Mike Williams, Steve McPhail, and Brian Coll who comprised the team that planned and organized this first annual event from the ground up.
