Georgetown University's Mr. John Carr Speaks to Religion Class

Mr. John Carr, the founder and director of the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life at Georgetown University, spoke to Ms. Katie Murphy's Social Justice in Action class this week.

Mr. Carr talked about the guiding principles behind Catholic Social Teaching, and discussed how Catholic institutions, beliefs, and values shape public life and politics. He explained that Catholic Social Teaching can give you a different way of seeing the world, and a "moral vocabulary" to guide you. "It's not simply a set of rules," he said, "But a community of love."

At the end of the talk, which took place over Zoom, students asked a variety of thought-provoking questions--about how to incorporate Catholic Social Teaching into their day-to-day lives, how to end poverty and create lasting change, and what it means that we now have a Catholic President of the United States.
