40 Miles 4 Refugees

On Thursday, October 1, Gonzaga's Campus Ministry department launched a solidarity challenge called 40 Miles 4 Refugees. The challenge is part of Campus Ministry's Faith in Action program.

About 40 students joined a Zoom call with faculty, Jesuits, and Mr. Josh Utter of the Jesuit Refugee Service to learn more about the refugee crisis. Fr. Harry Geib, rector of the Jesuit Community at Gonzaga, talked with students about his three years ministering to refugees in Thailand, Malaysia, and Uganda.

A group of student leaders then introduced a challenge to cover in any way 40 miles for refugees. During the next six weeks, participating students will carry the stories of refugees with them as they travel their 40 or more miles in remembrance of the refugee crisis. Students are invited to walk as representatives of teams, clubs, or friend groups.
