Gonzaga Peace Club Alumni Deliver Goods to Homeless Encampments

On Monday, June 1, several alumni of the Gonzaga Peace Club worked with the Washington Legal Clinic to deliver sanitary supplies to homeless encampments on L and M street, just a few blocks from Gonzaga’s campus.

Here is an Instagram post describing their visit:

While serving, the alumni were able to see the new portable bathroom that was implemented on L Street and a hand sanitizing station with no soap or water. The packages that they delivered included a roll of toilet paper, cleansing wipes, a comb, and pre-wrapped masks.

This group of alumni first began volunteering to serve their homeless neighbors in NoMa earlier this year as seniors at Gonzaga after reading a Washington Post article about a pending eviction of a tent community two blocks from the school. On March 5, Peace Club president Henry Sullivan ’20 and club member Andrew Gans '20 even testified at a hearing of the DC Committee on Health regarding the issue.

The group that visited on Monday noticed that the sidewalks were cleaner since their last visit and that most people they saw experiencing homelessness wore masks.
