Latin I Class Creates Intricate Shields as part of Roman Military Project

Over the past few weeks, Mr. Carl Cardozo's Latin I class has been working on a Roman military project that is intended to give them a taste of Roman life. The project included presentations on famous Romans or famous Roman battles, memorizing and reciting Latin oratory, and building authentic Roman shields.

The class created some beautiful shields, and special praise goes to Thomas O'Neill '23, whose shield Mr. Cardozo says, is "a pretty exacting replica of one found at Dura Europos in Syria." You can take a look at the original shield next to Thomas' rendition by clicking here

We hope you enjoy these pictures of some of the shields the students created.
