Gonzaga Embraces Distance Learning
Gonzaga is wrapping up its first week of distance learning today. During this time, faculty and students are following a synchronous schedule, meaning they have a specific class schedule and communicate in real time during their classes through various web tools. During class, teachers take attendance and students are required to engage throughout the period.
Gonzaga's community has continued to engage in other ways this week as well. On Thursday, faculty and staff joined their colleagues for a zoom meeting during their lunch periods, and on Friday morning, they came together online to pray the examen before school started. Some clubs have continued to meet online, while College Counseling, Counseling, Library and Campus Ministry teams have continued to meet with students and parents, offering various types of support and service.
Educational Technologist John Kilroy says he is inspired by the creativity of our faculty and staff as they find new ways to help students learn. "Teachers excitedly share technological breakthroughs with each other as we continue our work of educating and caring for the whole person," he says.
Headmaster Mr. Tom Every adds: "From video conferencing to online discussion to virtual meetings of clubs and organizations, the spirit of the Gonzaga community is alive and well. True to our spirit on Eye Street, students, faculty and staff are rising to the challenge of being physically apart. Despite the inherent challenges of distance learning, learning is continuing at a high level and we are confident that our young men will be prepared for the next level of their education."
