Swim and Dive Finishes Regular Season Strong

The Swimming and Diving Eagles are now 8-1 on the season. Many of the team's decisive wins have been powered by the performances and leadership of the captains: Ollie Bernasek (whose most notable win was in the 100 free against Georgetown Prep), Ryan Catron (who is strong in all but has done particularly well in the 500 free and 100 backstroke), Hayes Goetcheus (who has been a big contributor in both individual events and in relays), and Connor Burke (who has led the way in the 200 free and 500 free).

The Eagle divers have done great accroding to Head Coach Kevin Wagman. "We started the season with one and now we have eight," says Coach Wagman. "Some of them started knowing no dives but are now successfully completing five or more!"

The team's strength, as in years past, comes from their overall depth, including 19 seniors as well as contributors in the junior, sophomore, and freshman classes. Here is a short list of the fastest swims and times so far this year:
  • 50 free Ollie Bernasek '20 21.82
  • 100 free Ollie Bernasek '20 47.91
  • 200 free JT Ewing '22 1:44.60
  • 500 free Ryan Catron '20 4:42.52
  • 100 back JT Ewing '22 51.04 (this is crazy fast)
  • 100 fly Matthew Pottker '21 51.44
  • 200 IM Collin McKenzie '22 1:56.45
  • Divers top score Chris Marinaro '20
With wins over St. Stephen's St. Agnes (73-28) and St. Andrew's (88-13) on January 14, the Eagles have completed the regular season. Championship season begins this weekend with the Catholic Nationals in Baltimore, MD.
