Soccer Wins WCAC on Final Play, Shoots for DCSAA Title This Weekend

It's been an amazing week for the varsity Soccer Eagles! The team defeated Good Counsel on Sunday, November 3 by scoring two goals in the final six minutes to claim the program's third title in four years with a 2-1 win. 1st Amendment Sports broadcasted the game live online; here are the two thrilling scoring sequences:

"We just wanted to keep pressing," head coach Scott Waller said. “Gonzaga’s had some miracles on this field. So we just wanted to keep pressing, keep pressing and do the best we could." Click here to read the entire article from the Washington Post. And here are some great photos:

The team then entered the DCSAA tournament on Tuesday, November 5 as the #8 seed versus the #9 seed School Without Walls. The Eagles won the play-in game 2-1 to earn a spot in the quarterfinals the next day against top-seeded and undefeated St. Alban's.

The DCSAA Quarterfinal was another tight game that came down to the final play. For 100 minutes the two teams traded volleys and dangerous attacks but neither side was able to get through. Senior Ryan Elie and Junior Will Thompson had the best opportunities but after regulation and two sudden-victory overtime periods, the game was decided on penalty kicks. Freshman Goalkeeper Drew Hartman blocked three St. Albans penalty attempts and the Eagles won 3-1 to advance! Here is Senior John Hodges slotting in the game clinching penalty kick:

The DCSAA Semifinal will take today, November 8 at 2:45 PM at E.L. Haynes.
