Rugby Takes Third Place in National Championships

The rugby Eagles travelled to Salt Lake City, UT for the National Championships last week. Gonzaga won the quarterfinal versus Xavier (NY) on May 16 with a score of 28 to 25, advancing to the semi-final round for the 11th straight year.

Due to weather, the semifinal game on May 17 vs Jesuit (CA) was suspended with 25 minutes left to play and the score tied 10-10. Here is a video highlight of a great try by Gonzaga:

When the game resumed the next morning, Gonzaga fought hard but lost to Jesuit, 17-12. Head Coach Peter Baggetta wrote one Facebook: “So incredibly proud of the boys - the players showed what Men For and With Others means by clapping Jesuit onto the field for the championship game. Our culture of GIVEing being lived out even after losing a heartbreaker to Jesuit in the semi-finals.   #AMDG”

Here’s the video of the team cheering for Jesuit as they took the field:

The Eagles went on to defeat East High (UT) 38-36, winning third place in the tournament. Congrats to the team on another incredible season!
