Seven Football Eagles Earn NFF Scholar-Athlete Award

The 13th annual National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Banquet was held on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia. The banquet recognized 39 of Maryland, D.C, and Virginia's finest football scholar-athletes who have achieved high academic standards and plan to continue playing at the college level. Gonzaga's presence was felt strongly as we accounted for the most student athletes of any school for the third year in a row.

Our very own Coach Jake Simmons IV '65 gave the invocation to begin the night. Coach Simmons was also presented one of the three special NFF awards--NFF President Greg Oliver presented him the "Lifetime Achievement Award" for his commitment to serve and impact amateur student-athletes and their community. Additionally, two local college athletes from Catholic University and Gallaudet University were recognized. National College Football Hall of Fame Inductee Coach Joe Taylor served as the evening's keynote speaker.

The student-athletes who were honored were Aaron Davis (US Naval Academy), Lucas Warfield (Princeton University), Loic Sangwa (Johns Hopkins University), Josh Morris (Dickinson College), Harrison Sousa (Franklin & Marshall), John Marshall (US Naval Academy), and Justin Ball (Vanderbilt University).
