Composer Robert Sheldon Visits Gonzaga

On Thursday, April 25, renowned composer Robert Sheldon came to Gonzaga to guest conduct “Lone Eagle,” an original composition that he wrote specifically for the Gonzaga Symphonic Winds.

Mr. Sheldon is one of the most performed composers of wind band music today. His music is performed around the world and appears on many international concert and contest lists. Mr. Sheldon regularly accepts commissions for new works, and produces numerous publications for concert bands, like Gonzaga’s, each year.

“Working with the composer of any piece is a rare opportunity that not too many students experience in their years as young musicians,” says Fine Arts teacher David Smith. “The students were able to hear the composer’s interpretation of the music and perspective firsthand--an invaluable learning opportunity.”
