Baseball Beats Ireton, DeMatha and O'Connell

After a tough loss to Virginia power Centreville on March 28, the varsity baseball Eagles notched three WCAC wins in four days.

On Saturday March 30, the Eagles beat Ireton 6-1. Garrett Newsome ‘20 hit a solo homer deep to right field in the first inning. Will Carr ‘21 went 2-for-3 at the plate, leading the Eagles in hits on the day. The Eagles tore up the base paths, as four players stole at least two bases. John Maloney ‘19 led the way with three. Senior pitcher Jack Ewald pitched for four innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, and striking out two and walking zero. Joe Manely ‘19 threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

On Monday, April 1 the team beat DeMatha 4-1 behind a great day at the plate for Nick Morabito ‘22. Morabito drew a walk with bases loaded, scoring one run in the first inning and scored another run with an RBI double. Greg Kopp ‘21, Will Dolson ‘19, and Newsome all had one hit to lead the Eagles.  Pitcher Jack Quimby ‘19 allowed eight hits and one run over seven innings, striking out five.

And the next day, on Tuesday, April 2 the team got right back in the win column with a 4-1 victory over at O'Connell to improve to 9-2 on the season. Next up is another WCAC test vs McNamara on Saturday, April 6 at PG Boys and Girls Club at 1 PM.
