Baseball Wins Two More, Ready for SJC and GC

Congrats to the baseball Eagles on beating Avalon 8-3 on Friday, March 15 and beating West Potomac 3-1 on March 18.

In the third game of the year vs Avalon, the game was tied at 3-3 with Gonzaga batting in the bottom of the 5th when Christian Ficca ‘20 singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. The Eagles tallied eight hits on the night as Jason Shephard ‘19 and Will Carr ‘21 each had two hits. Gonzaga had three players steal at least two bases with John Maloney ‘19 leading the way with three. Junior pitcher Garrett Newsome took the win for the Eagles as he allowed three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out five. Anthony Seiler ‘19 and Mike Casler ‘21 entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the Knights for the 8-3 win.

The fourth game of the year vs West Potomac was much more of a pitching duel as Jack Quimby ‘19 pitched a complete game giving up only four hits. Carr came up big again as he single handedly gave the Eagles the lead in 1st inning. He reached base on an infield single, stole 2nd and 3rd, and scored on a passed ball. In the bottom of the third, Newsome homered to deep left-centerfield to extend the Eagles’ lead to 2-0 en route to the 3-1 win.

The team is now 4-0 and will begin WCAC play this weekend with two games at Nats Academy. Come out to see the Eagles take on St. John's on Friday, March 22 at 7 PM and Good Counsel on Saturday, March 23 at 10 AM.

Go Gonzaga!
