Hockey Off to a Fast Start

On November 9, Gonzaga’s Ice Hockey program kicked off its 2018-2019 season with the Dominik Pettey Purple White Game, an inter-squad game played in honor of friend and teammate Dominik Pettey ’15, who died in a car accident in 2014. The event raised money for the Dominik L. Pettey ’15 Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund at Gonzaga. Dominik, whose #11 was retired by Gonzaga hockey after his tragic death, embodied the spirit of Gonzaga, and the fund is one way we keep his legacy strong on Eye Street.

In conjunction with the game was a 111-hour fundraiser for the Pettey Fund, which ended at 11:11pm on 11/11. More than 330 donors came together to contribute to the online campaign, which raised over $50,000. "We can't believe that over a quarter of a million dollars has been raised in Dominik's name, and it's going to go to helping several young men have a Gonzaga education," said Patrick Pettey, Dominik's father. "It's just a great opportunity for them, through your generosity. Thank you so very much." To learn more about Dominik, visit dominikpettey.com.
