Soccer Opens WCAC Play with Win Over Good Counsel

The Varsity Soccer team defeated Good Counsel on September 10, 3-0, in its first WCAC match of the season. It was slow-going at the start but the Eagles broke through near the end of the first half on a corner kick by Brady Young ‘20 to Ryan Elie ‘20. Here is video of the first goal on Buchanan Field in 2018.

Young would assist on another corner kick in the second half, this time to Christian Maalouf ‘20. With about 15 minutes left in the match Junior Mark Western caught the keeper off of his line and hit a laser from 40 yards out to put the match out of reach.  Here are some great photos:

The team took their first loss of the season to a tough Leonardtown High School team on September 12, 1-0. The Eagles had a flurry of shots towards the end of the match but were unable to break through. Senior goalie Gonzalo Bartoli-Piniero made four saves in the effort.

The team is back in action with its second WCAC matchup vs Ireton, today, September 14 at 5:15pm on Buchanan Field.
