Football Opens 130th Season With Big Win Over Gilman

Gonzaga football opened the 2018 season with a dominant 47-0 win over the Gilman School on Friday, August 24 in front of a great crowd on Eye Street!  The score was tied at the end of the first quarter, but the Eagles would take a 27-0 lead into halftime behind two touchdown passes and two touchdown runs from sophomore quarterback Caleb Williams.  Sam Sweeney '19 caught both of the touchdown passes, a 73 yarder and a 20 yarder.  Williams' runs were from 35 and 93 yards out respectively.

Wide receivers Aaron Turner '21 and John Marshall '19 scored the two Gonzaga touchdowns in the second half.  Joshua Williams '21 recorded two sacks and two tackles for losses on defense.  Dean Engram '19 lead the team in all three phases as he made key plays on defense, on offense, and in special teams.

Here is a great highlight recap of the win:

The next game for the Eagles is on Friday, August 31 at 7pm vs Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach, VA.
