Eye Street Revisited: Learning about Gonzaga's 19th Century Alumni

By Danny Costello ’72, Vice President for Major & Planned Gifts
With Gonzaga’s approaching Bicentennial in mind, I went searching for a story from the 19th century annals of our school’s history. I found this one about John Carroll Brent, the great-nephew of Archbishop John Carroll and a member of Gonzaga's Class of 1827.

I first learned about Brent and his love of soccer from Gonzaga history-sleuth Paul Warren ’68. As soccer enjoys the spotlight this summerinternationally with the World Cup and locally with the opening of Audi Field, D.C. United's new stadiumI thought it appropriate to share a story about a Gonzaga connection to Washington’s soccer origins.

Click here to read the short story, which first appeared in the Summer 2006 edition of the Good News From Nineteen Eye Street.
