Rugby Wins National Championship on Final Play!

After beating longtime rival Jesuit (CA) in the semifinal on Friday, May 18, Coach Baggetta's team set its sights on winning its fourth National Championship in five years.  With six senior starters sidelined due to injury, the Eagles would have to rely on their depth and perserverance in the championship game. The team did just that on Saturday, May 19 versus Herriman (UT) in a match for the ages.

"It took every single second, but Gonzaga won its fourth single school title in five years Saturday, beating Herriman 31-26 with a try at the death at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, MO," wrote Flo Rugby. "The Eagles built a 17-0 lead only to concede it late in the second half and snatch it back with no time left." Click here to read the rest of the article.

Here are the two early tries, one from Tim Sessing '19 and one from Billy Jerro '18, that provided the early lead for Gonzaga:

And here is the game winning try from Will Lyke '18 with no time left on the clock:

Owen Sheehy '19 provided 11 points with four conversion kicks and a succesful penalty, and Ryan Ebel '18 scored the Eagles other try early in the second half before the furious Herriman comeback.

Congratulations to the players and coaches on an incredible season!
