Mark Howell ’73 Wins Prestigious Teaching Award

Math and Computer Science teacher and alumnus, Mark Howell ‘73, received a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching for the District of Columbia.

The award recognizes teachers who develop and implement a high-quality instructional program that is informed by content knowledge and enhances student learning.

According to a description of the award program, “Awardees serve as models for their colleagues, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in the improvement of STEM (including computer science) education.”

This is the second time that Mark has received this award; he was also honored in 1993. “This is an incredibly prestigious award and a great honor for Mark and Gonzaga,” said Headmaster Tom Every. “We're very lucky to have one of the best math teachers in the country at our school!”
