Rugby Wins 9th Straight Gonzaga Classic

The varsity purple Eagles won the Gonzaga Rugby Classic (formerly known as the Jesuit Rugby Classic) for the 9th consecutive time on Sunday, April 15 at Morven Park in Leesburg, VA.  The event is a two-day tournament hosted by Gonzaga, and all levels of the Gonzaga Rugby program participate each year.

The play of the day on Sunday came from the 41-10 semifinal win over Aspetuck (CN):

"A huge thank you goes out to our tournament director Kevin Ebel and his team of parents which seemed like hundreds that were on the job from sun up to sun down insuring that the tournament continues to be a first class event," said Gonzaga Rugby Director Lee Kelly.  "The players on all teams gave great effort over the two days. Congratulations to our Purple team and coaches on winning the tournament for the 9th consecutive time!"

The next game is Sunday, April 22 in Pittsburgh, PA at 2:30pm. The Eagles will take on the current #1 ranked school team in the nation, St. Edward's of Cleveland.  "Last weekend was a good step for us in building towards the National Championship.  What we were most pleased with was the contributions of the bench players who stepped up when called upon," says Head Coach Peter Baggetta.
