Eye Street Revisited: A Hidden Treasure on Eye Street

By Danny Costello ’72, Vice President for Major & Planned Gifts
While prospecting the treasure trove of The Good News from Eye Street archives, I came across a spring of 2002 article about Father Walter Burghardt, S.J., a world-renowned homilist who lived in the Gonzaga Jesuit Community.

The Gonzaga Jesuit Community is a hub from which the Society of Jesus serves the Washington, D.C. region. In addition to those who work in the school, the community has over the years been home to college professors, lawyers, leaders of spiritual retreats, and many more. While literally world famous, Father Walter Burghardt, S.J. was a hidden treasure on Eye Street, writing his homilies from a small office in Kohlmann Hall.  He passed away in 2008.

I hope you enjoy the article, which you can read by clicking here. It’s worth revisiting.
