Rugby Gets Two Big Wins, Next up: Royal Irish

The varsity purple rugby Eagles picked up two wins last weekend. After being down 12-0 at halftime, the team stormed back to defeat Ft. Hunt 24-12 on Saturday, March 10. And on Sunday, March 11, Gonzaga edged West End 36-35.

Here is the play of the game from the win over Ft. Hunt, a chip kick by Jack DuFour ‘18, caught by Ryan Eble ‘18 for the try:

"We've been bit by the injury bug, but the team played well," said Gonzaga head coach Peter Baggetta, who did not start High School All-Americans Owen Sheehy or Ian Kilcullen (flyhalf and inside center, respectively) over the weekend. "We kept our composure," Baggetta said. "We identified where the space was, and we attacked the space or exploited it with our kicking game. And defensively we were very good." Next up for the Eagles is a trip to Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia to face off the defending high school club champion Cathedral Royal Irish on Saturday, March 17 at 2pm.
