Wrestling Honors Seniors, Goes 1-1 at Midday Melee

The Gonzaga wrestlers look forward to the chance to compete in front of a large crowd each year at the annual Midday Melee, when teachers are invited to bring their class to the Carmody Center to cheer on the team during 8th period. On January 10, the Eagles took on Good Counsel and O’Connell.

Before the first match against Good Counsel, Head Coach Milton Yates '97 honored the 11 seniors on the team and their parents. Nathan Thacker ‘18 was especially recognized, as he has amassed a 172-22 record during his time competing on Eye Street. He is a three-time WCAC champion, three-time DCSAA champion, and he is the winningest wrestler in Washington, DC high school history. Here is a short video of some of the pre-match festivities:


The team lost to Good Counsel by a score of 42-18, but defeated O’Connell 62-12. Here are some highlights of the action:

The team’s next competition is on Friday, January 19 in a Quad Meet with Landon, St. Alban’s, and Gilman at Landon.
