Football Beats Friendship, Will Take on DeMatha at Home

Gonzaga Football improved to 4-2 on the season with a 34-7 victory over the Friendship Collegiate Academy on Friday, September 30. The Eagles travelled the four miles up H St to face the Knights in a steady rain for their first road game of the season.

The win last Friday was powered by strong play in all three phases of the game. Linebacker David Fred '24 got things started for the Eagles by intercepting a 4th Down pass by the Knights and returning it 75 yards for a touchdown. Wide receiver Jaylen Penn '23 connected on a 39 yard field goal later in the 1st quarter, and running back Cody Hobson '25 scored from 7 yards out in the second quarter to give Gonzaga a 17-7 advantage heading into halftime.

The third quarter belonged to the Eagles. DB Jalen Bogues '23 recovered a muffed Knight punt return to set up junior quarterback Aidan Conrath's first of two touchdown passes to tight end Burke Carroll '23 (see below). The defense shut out the Knights in the second half behind strong play from defensive lineman Rex Stinchcomb '25. Kicker John Holley '25 made all four of his extra points following each Gonzaga touchdown and Penn connected on a 42 yard field goal midway through the 4th quarter to complete the scoring on the night.
