News of Alumni: Rev. Joseph Lingan, SJ ‘75

Former Gonzaga President Rev. Joseph Lingan, SJ ’75 will be leaving the Georgetown Jesuit Community to serve as a spiritual director at the Ignatius House Jesuit Retreat Center in Sandy Springs, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta.

This is part of the expanding work of the Maryland Province in Atlanta, which includes Cristo Rey High School Atlanta and St. Thomas More Parish in Decatur, outside of Atlanta. Father Lingan will be living at the parish rectory, along with Father Tim Stephens, SJ, a former Gonzaga faculty member who is newly assigned to the parish.

Over the years, Father Lingan has been involved with the Gonzaga community in many ways—as a student, alumnus, Chaplain, teacher, softball coach, board member, and as the only alumnus to serve as President. This past fall, he was awarded the St. Aloysius Medal for his remarkable service to the school and broader community.

We wish him the best of luck in Georgia!
