Soccer Beats WIS, Honors 1993 WCAC Champions

The varsity soccer Eagles defeated Washington International School on Friday, October 19 in DCSAA action, 1-0. In a very tight first half, both sides possessed and exchanged volleys but neither was able to break through.

At halftime of the game, Gonzaga's first soccer team to win a WCAC Championship was honored. Eight members from the 1993 team were in attendance to celebrate the 25th anniversary of starting the winning tradition for Gonzaga Soccer.

In the second half, Will Thompson '21 sent a seemingly harmless ball to Brady Young '20 who wound up and hit a 30-yard shot, catching the goalkeeper off his line. WIS pressed forward throughout the second half, attempting to break through, but it resulted in several counterattacks. Senior goalkeeper Gonzalo Bartoli-Piniero recorded yet another shutout.
