Basketball Named Top Team at Slam Dunk to the Beach

The basketball Eagles ended 2018 on a high note at the Slam Dunk to the Beach tournament, going 3-0 and earning the "Top Team" honors. The team won its first game by 8, and gained their most impressive win in game two versus Our Savior New American (N.Y.), where they faced the tournament's eventual MVP. The Cape Gazette wrote:

"Gonzaga College (D.C.) – The Eagles cruised to three wins in three days, outscoring some prime-time competition by 12.3 points per game and shooting a ridiculous 55 percent from the floor in the process.

Stephen Turner’s charges took down Albany Academy (N.Y.), Our Savior New American (N.Y.), and Liberty (Nev.) by playing the smart, disciplined basketball that Slam Dunk fans have come to expect from them over the last two years. Four Gonzaga players – high-major prospects Chuck Harris, Terrance Williams, Myles Stute, and Anwar Gill – averaged double figures in scoring for the tourney. The Eagles’ brilliance at Slam Dunk could elevate them into the national polls in the coming week."

Juniors Chuck Harris and Myles Stute were named to the All-Tournament Team. Click here to read complete article.

The Eagles returned home and took on Bishop O'Connell on the road on January 3. Gonzaga fell 82-78 in overtime, and is now 9-3 overall and 3-2 in WCAC play. They are back in action vs Bishop Gorman (NV) in the Coaches vs Cancer Invitational at Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia on Saturday, January 5 at 4:40 PM – you can watch the game live on ESPN here
